Abstract

This study aimed to investigate how students learn English speaking through YouTube. This study used a qualitative case study design. The participants consisted of 8 students of a private high school in Indonesia. The findings showed that YouTube provided authentic language input that supported motivation, vast pronunciation acquisition, flexible self-paced learning with repetition, and exposure to diverse dialects. This study provides a novel contribution by examining students’ English speaking learning process through YouTube. However, there is a lack of measuring the students’ speaking achievement. Hence, longitudinal, comparative and the effectiveness of the use of YouTube for students’ speaking or across other English proficiency skills through YouTube are recommended to examine.
